Functional Sound in the Stadium: The VAR – Seen and Heard

With the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), the German Football League (DFL) quickly recognized that solely visual communication about the VAR decision process via stadium screens was not sufficient. This initially image-focused information needed to be accompanied by sound!

As a response, WESOUND developed two sound signals specifically for the VAR decision process. These signals are designed to help ensure that the involvement of the VAR is noticed at all times and in all areas of the stadium. The mere sound of these signals captures the attention of the spectators.
